Australia's champion
three-year-old of last season Lonhro has made a sizzling return to the racetrack by easily
winning today's Group Three Missile Stakes at Rosehill in Sydney. With Darren Beadman in the saddle the Group One winning son of
Octagonal, blitzed his rivals in the New South Wales feature.
After getting back toward midfield, Lonhro then unleashed a
powerful finishing burst to sweep past the leaders before careering away for the easiest
of wins.
At the post the $1.65 favourite held a massive three and
three quarter length break over Ancient Song, one of the early leaders in the race. Third
home was the former Group One winner Notoire who started as the massive on course quote of
150/1, he was a neck behind the runner-up.
Today's win was Lonhro's eight consecutive win, all of
which have come in stakes class. Last preparation as a three-year-old he won all seven
starts including the Group One Caulfield Guineas in Melbourne.
A winner of ten of his 13 starts Lonhro has only finished unplaced once, when
fourth beaten less than two lengths in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
Owned by the Woodlands Stud Syndicate, managed by Jack and
Bob Ingham, Lonhro has now earned connections $1,502,900.
His major assignment this preparation is October's Group
One Carlton Draught Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Melbourne when he is likely to clash
with Sunline, Northerly and Japanaese champion Eishen Preston.
The second favourite in the race, the Gai Waterhouse
trained Ha Ha, raced midfield for much of the race and she was unable to quicken with the
winner before struggling home in fourth place, just ahead of Stormcat Academy.
