Promising Filante filly Macedon Lady has made it three straight wins
by taking the Eurest Australia Handicap (1730m) in impressive style at Flemington today. Trained by John Symons, the filly who turns three tomorrow, sat off
the early pace before sweeping up to the leaders in the straight and drawing away for a
comprehensive victory.
It is the third consecutive win for the filly who is
shaping as an Oaks type filly later in the year.
Interestingly, the filly was John Symons' top pick at the
2001 Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney, over his crack juvenile of this season Bel Esprit.
"She was my pick over Bel Esprit and I bought her for
$22,000," Symons said.
"She's very smart and I think she'll be a spring filly, she has a very bright
future."
Macedon Lady is by former outstanding racehorse Filante, from the winning Cossack
Warrior mare Boo Ticket, a half-sister to prolific West Australian stakes-winning
sprinter-miler Cranky Tikit.
"I'll ease her up now and be nominating her for the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield
in October and the Crown Oaks at Flemington in early November," Symons added.
