Champion New Zealand mare
Sunline has won her first award of the Australia's Racing Champions Night in Melbourne
when she was announced as winning the Champion Filly or Mare of the season. Winning trainer Trevor McKee and her owners were on hand to accept
the award, just a couple of hours after she was surprisingly inducted into the Australian
Racing Hall of Fame.
Sunline dominated the award over the Caulfield and
Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal, polling close to triple the amount of votes than her rival
kiwi.
A daughter of the Victorian based stallion Desert Sun, Sunline had a great season
by winning three Group One races - she was also a group one winner in New Zealand -
however that race was not able to be taken into consideration.
Ethereal, a member of the Sheila Laxon stable, was also a
three time Group One winner, and the vote was expected to be a lot closer than it
originally was.
Talented three-year-old Ha Ha and the bonny two-year-old
filly Victory Vein both polled one vote.
THE VOTES
SUNLINE (NZ) 110 (69.18%)
Ethereal (NZ) 47 (29.56)
Ha Ha 1 (0.63%)
Victory Vein 1 (0.63%)
