Leading Melbourne jockey
Patrick Payne has picked up the plum ride aboard the boom Brisbane youngster Star of
Florida when the gelding travels to Sydney next month. Star of Florida, who scored a runaway track record breaking win at Doomben
last week, is set to clash with another pin-up Queenslander Calaway Gal in his first
interstate run.
Both rising three-year-olds are set to clash in a mouth
watering San Domenico Stakes at Randwick on August 10. The San Domenico has a rich history
of producing a star up and coming galloper. Previous winners include General Nediym, Testa
Rossa, Tierce, Sir Dapper, Our Maizcay and Proud Knight, while twelve months ago Mistegic
scored an upset win.
Trained by Pat Duff, Star of Florida was ridden to success
last week by Queensland based Josh Pollard, but an ultimate mission to Melbourne convinced
connections to switch to Payne.
