Leading Australian jockey Craig Williams, who's established himself
as a top hoop in England and Dubai over the past twelve months, will be attempting to win
Saturday's Caloundra City Cup in Queensland in his short local "holiday." Williams will team up with Mornington trainer Max Hinton by
partnering the handy stayer Lodger in the $202,000 feature on the Sunshine Coast.
Lodger, who ran second to Oliver Beer in the Swan Hill Cup
two starts back, is one of the lightweight chances in the 2400 metre race.
A former leading apprentice and multiple Group One winning
hoop, Williams has three rides on the day at Caloundra.
He'll be in the country for "a few more weeks"
before again leaving for overseas in what he is hoping to be a fruitful and economically
successfull assignment.
"I'll return to England for a little while before
going over to Hong Kong where I have a three month contract," Williams said on radio
this morning. "Hopefully I will ride well enough to get an extension through to the
end of the season. That's the short term plan anyway."
Williams rode for a short time in Hong Kong during the
latter part of their recently completed season with good results.
"I had a handful of winners and quite a few placings
in Hong Kong," Williams said. "I was happy with my consistency there."
As well as riding Lodger for Max Hinton, Williams will be
teaming up with another Victorian trainer in a feature race. He will be aboard the Colin
Little trained sprinter Kapuna in the Glasshouse Handicap.
