Lightly raced
gelding Homeward Bound broke through to win his first race in start number seven at
Quirindi this afternoon, a Maiden over 1200 metres. While
that might sound about normal, take into account the gelding is a ten-year-old, and in six
weeks will be a spritely eleven-year-old.
Trained at Gunnedah by Michael Carberry, Homeward Bound is
by the current South Australian based sire Al Khawaaneeg.
In today's race the gelding was ridden to victory by young
apprentice rider Cody Morgan.
The gelding won by a length and a half over Iron Spanner,
while Flying Frankie was a further three quarters of a length back in third place.
About forty minutes later the gelding Whiskey Hit fell in
to win the second division of the maiden. The Bell mount is nearly three times younger
(aged four) than Homeward Bound.
Early next week Cyberhorse will follow up and find out
the history of Homeward Bound in what is sure to be a very interesting story. |
