Leading jumps
trainer Eric Musgrove has unearthed a genuine Grand National Steeplchase contender after
the fighting win of Big Bonus in today's Trevor Clarke Steeplechase (3300m) at Flemington. Musgrove, who also saddled up the unplaced Gilligan, said Big Bonus
would continue on to the rich steeple events in the coming weeks after his gutsy win.
After being given a lovely run by former Adelaide jumps
jockey Tom Hazlett, Big Bonus was able to ground out the evergreen Leading Bounty over the
final hundred metres to score.
Today's win was the third win from four starts for the
six-year-old son of Bold Rancher and only his fourth win from start number 42.
"Well press on to the National now," Musgrove said
after his gelding's strong win. |
