Melbourne based apprentice rider Craig Newitt was fined at Sandown today after being found
guilty of overusing the whip. Stewards called Newitt
to front them after his ride on the narrow runner-up Champagne Miss in the sixth race of
the day, the Kapalaran Super Vobis Handicap (1600m).
A former Tasmanian Newitt was fined $300 for the offence
with stewards advising the young hoop "has been previously spoken to regarding the
use of his whip."
The race isn't one Newitt would like the remember after his
mount, which is trained by Len Treloar, was beaten a short head by the South Australian
galloper Moella. |
