Horsham based trained Barbara Marshman won her second Mount Gambier Gold Cup when
Sly Rambler proved much too good this afternoon winning by nearly three lengths. The gelding, who jumped the favourite with the bookmakers and on the
TAB, was always travelling well just behind the leaders after a copybook ride by Adelaide
        based hoop Jason Holder (pictured).
After sitting in fourth place for the majority of the early
and middle stages Holder then asked the talented galloper to make his move and the pair
hit the front shortly after turning for home. From that point the result was never in
doubt as they cleared away for a comprehensive victory.
For Marshman this afternoon's success was her second Mount
Gambier Gold Cup. She had also won the race with Suliere in 1997. Incredibly both Suliere
and Sly Rambler are by the virtual unknown sire Shy Rambler.
Jason "Stubby" Holder then made it a race to race
double when he won the very next race aboard Summer Wind. That galloper also winning by a
        large margin.
A seven-year-old gelding, Sly Rambler (3/1 fav) stopped the
clock at 2 minutes 39.64 seconds on the slow track. Showgazer (9/1) was second while Jewel
        of Kingston (12/1) finished third.
Last year's winner All the Action raced midfield and never
made any real impression over the final stages before winding up in fifth place just ahead
on Tuesday's Blue Lake Handicap winner Staff Party who came from well back in the field.
Meanwhile, injury plagued galloper Evacuation is headed to
Adelaide after a runaway win in the opening event of the day, a Class Five Handicap over
        1400 metres.
The Vincent Bradley trained son of Danger bolted clear of
his rivals to win untouched by seven lengths. Bradley said after the race he'd come close
to giving up on the gelding who has ongoing leg problems.
A short time later Dankworth jumped to glory by scoring an
effortless win in the Auspine South Eastern Steeplechase. The dashing Victorian jumper was
piloted to victory by Joe Hateley.
