Leading Melbourne jockey
Damien Oliver has been booked to ride the classy filly Galroof in next weekend's Group One
Queensland Derby in Brisbane. Oliver's services
were snapped up by leading trans-Tasman trainer Michael Moroney after Galroof's former
rider, the local hoop Stathi Katsidis, was booked for another fancy.
Katsidis, who rode the filly to her last start defeat in the
Doomben Cup, will be partnering the Rex Lipp trained Tellson, a galloper who also finished
second last weekend.
Galroof, a daughter of the former New Zealand shuttle sire
Maroof, had little luck in last weekend's Doomben Cup when beaten a half length by the in
form Mr. Bureaucrat. The filly copped interference and had trouble getting a run before
charging home to narrowly miss. A subsequent protest by connections against the winner was
dismissed after what seemed a length inquiry.
The $498,000 Queensland Derby (Group One) will be run at
Eagle Farm next Saturday over 2400 metres.
The race looks strong with other leading chances apart from
Galroof and Tellson appearing to be Distinctly Secret, Arlington Road and Cassimir.
