A capacity field
of top class gallopers will clash on Friday when the $31,200 Scott-Mobil Mount Gambier
Gold Cup (2400m) will be run. Powerful local
trainer Michael O'Leary will lead the way with three runners including proven performers
All the Action and Hidden Account, who have drawn barriers nine and six respectively. His
other runner will be Super Sunrise who has also drawn well in barrier eight.
The race has attracted a full field of 16 runners and four
emergencies. There were also three potential runners balloted out of the field when
acceptances closed this morning.
Top Melbourne jockey Greg Childs will ride the proven Mark
Minervini trained gelding Inflewinzer in the big race from barrier twelve.
Another leading hope to receive a favourable draw was the
Millicent stayer Showgazer. The Dick Coote prepared gelding has barrier four and his
chances will also be enhanced with the booking of leading Adelaide rider Joe Bowditch.
Bitski, the oldtimer who has a cult following, will have the
services of promising Strathalbyn based apprentice rider Matthew Neilson, while leading
lady trainer Barbara Marshman has snapped up the servies of Morphettville hoop Jason
Holder for her top class galloper Sly Rambler.
The Mount Gambier Gold Cup will be the feature event of eight
to be run on the third and final day of the city's Cup Carnival. The first day is about to
get under way today. |
