Veteran
Victorian jockey Dale Short seems to have escapen any serious injury despite being taken
to hospital after a fall at Moonee Valley in Melbourne this afternoon. Short has taken by ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after
complaining of back soreness, but reports later in the afternoon cleared the hoop of
serious injury.
The news wasn't so good for Short's mount in the Brendan
McCarthy Handicap, the Ken Keys trained galloper Hidden Clause. The gelding had to be put
down after suffering fatal injuries approaching the home turn.
Chief Steward Des Gleeson said an inquiry into the fall will
be conducted at a later date. Gleeson said, as the film also indicated, there was some
tightening at the point of the incident.
Some evidence was taken this afternoon from three jockeys who
were riding in the race. |
