The south
eastern South Australian city of Mount Gambier will come alive next week when they stage
their annual three day carnival spectacular. The
carnival will kick off with the first of three race days on Wednesday where the feature
event will be the $15,400 Carlton Draught Blue Lake Handicap (2050m), the final lead up
for the Cup which will be run two days later.
Other highlights on the Wednesday card include the $8,500
Volcano Flying Handicap (1200m) and the $5,500 JJ Mulqueeny Memorial Hurdle (2400m).
The second day of the carnival will feature the $12,000
Adelaide Bank Handicap (1580m) for the middle distance performers, while the jumpers get
their chance for glory in the $5,500 Morphett Arms Hurdle (3100m).
The first two days of the carnival will be easily surpassed
for features on Friday when a top field is set to contest the $31,200 Scott-Mobil Mount
Gambier Gold Cup (2400m).
The feature jumping event of the carnival, the $12,200
Auspine South Eastern Steeplechase (about 3400m) will also be held on Cup day.
All of the region's leading trainers will be gunning to win
the $500 trainers bonus. The prize is awarded to the trainer who amasses the most points
over the three day spectacular. Points will be awarded on a 3, 2, 1 basis for wins,
seconds and thirds respectively. If more than one trainer ends on the same amount of
points the prize will be equally shared. |
