Talented young Victorian stayer The A Train has made the rise to racing's
elite level by scoring a thrilling win in this afternoon's $400,000 smoke-free Adelaide
Cup. After being sent from a wide barrier in
the first half of the field by its rider Stephen Baster, The A Train then showed plenty of
fight to win the big race by a head.
Second home was the well fancied favourite Homewrecker
(55/10-5/1) who had a soft run during the race, while Silver Baron grabbed third in
another close finish.
The win continued a sensational run in Adelaide for Victorian
based trainer Cliff Brown who scored his fifth Group One win today.
"I have a real soft
spot for Adelaide," Brown said after the win. "This is my fourth Group One win
at Morphettville."
Brown had won three SA Derbies with Markham, Cheviot and Blue
Murder. Incredibly his other Group One winner, Tarnpir Lane, was an SA bred galloper.
The win also gave his popular hoop Stephen Baster his fifth
win at racing's highest level.
"I've won a couple of Newmarket Handicaps (Mookta and
Rubitano this year), an Oakleigh Plate (Mookta) and a VicHealth Cup with Lord
Luskin," an ever smiling Baster said.
Baster by praised by connections for giving his mount a good
run from an outside barrier.
