Recent Group winner Clothilde has been retired to stud after
suffering an injury.
The John Hawkes trained mare would have been running in
Saturday's Feltex Carpets SA Oaks at Morphettville had she not gone amiss in the
Australasian Oaks recently.
Clothilde, a beautifully bred daughter of the champion sire
Danehill, scored her best win on April 20 when she dashed away from subsequent Group One
winner Tully Thunder in the Group Three Lakewood Stud Stakes at Morphettville.
Hawkes' Adelaide foreman David Pannell said the mare, who is
from the former above average racemare Seika, strained a tendon in the recent Oaks and
would be retired.
"She would have to spend a fair while in the paddock,
then the same again bringing her back," Pannell said.
"She's already a stakes winner so it was decided to look
after her and send her off to stud," he added.
