Shutayr, the
gelding who jemped to glory at the Oakbank Easter Carnival just over a month ago, has
broken his maiden flat status in dashing style. In a
dream result for Morphettville trainer Joe Lockyer, Shutayr led home stablemate Crowned
Serdar in the Distance Class Two Handicap at Strathalbyn. Both horses were maidens before
today's race.
Shutayr, a son of the former South Australian stallion
Shuttlecock Corner, won a division of the Dicksons Sharebrokers Restricted Hurdle on
Easter Saturday and then two days later scored a fantastic win in the state's richest
hurdle event, the Yalumba Classic.
Today, however with no sticks in sight the grey gelding
scored a runaway win. In touch early he was sent around the field by Paul Gatt and from
there he was never headed.
When Shutayr reached the post he had a four and a half
length break over his less fancied stablemate Crowned Serdar, a galloper who is by Prince
Echo, who coincidentally is the sire of Oakbank's Great Eastern hero Ballata.
What odds are likely on this same quinella in the 2003
Great Eastern Steeplechase? With the way Joe Lockyer is running of late I wouldn't scoff
at that suggestion just yet! |
