Two of New
Zealand's most promising three-year-olds have arrived in Adelaide in preparation for the
opening day of the smoke-free Cup Carnival at Morphettville on Saturday. Top class filly Sursum Corda, who ran a strong second to Vapour
Trail in the Group One New Zealand Oaks, has been joined by the promising Frank Ritchie
trained gelding Our Kazz.
Both talented youngsters arrived yesterday after being
floated from Victoria creating a buzz around town as the carnival fast approached.
Thoroughbred Racing SA Racing Manager Ian Hart said today
it was exciting to have two highly credentialled kiwis running in Group races on Saturday
when racing returns to Morphettville.
"On exposed form they are probably among the best
three-year-olds we've had come from New Zealand for a long time", Hart said.
"Reports are that both horses have arrived and settled
in well and connections are looking forward to Saturday and further into the carnival with
them," he added.
Sursum Corda, who is raced by Sir Patrick and Lady Justine
Hogan of Cambridge Stud, is a full sister to the Group One winner and Melbourne Cup
runner-up Champagne.
Another full sister, a yearling, was sold to Gooree Stud
for $500,000 at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this month in Sydney.
The filly, who was taking ground off Vapour Trail in the
New Zealand Oaks, is trained by Colin Jillings and the horse has been joined in Adelaide
by Jilling's co-trainer Richard Yuill.
Meanwhile, (Our) Kazz who is prepared by Frank Ritchie and
his son Craig, has also performed well in feature events this season across the Tasman.
He finished a good fourth behind Leica Guv in the New
Zealand Derby, finishing just behind the recent AJC Oaks favourite Sixty Seconds - a
recent Group One winner in Sydney.
Bart Cummings, who kicked away his incredible training
career in Adelaide over forty years ago, will also be represented with a live chance in
the feature fillies events over the carnival with recent Flemington winner Embraceable
You. It is understood the kiwi bred filly is already in Adelaide. |
