Star
Queensland jockey Jim Byrne has continued his great form in Macau when he rode five
winners on the card yesterday. Byrne's first win came
in the second race when Smart Flyer defeated Born to be Lucky by a short head in the
Raffingora Handicap (Division 2) over 1000 metres.
It was a race to race double for Byrne when Siu Yuk, a son
of Defecting Dancer, downed Joyful by a head in the 2000 metre Nebbiola Handicap.
There was a little wait before the third win came in the
eighth event thanks to New Glory. That galloper took the feature race, the open class
Spring Trophy, by a length over Profitable.
A little over half an hour later Hop Shing Lucky made it
four for Byrne when that galloper cruised home by over three lengths in the second
division of the Geopelia Handicap. Shane Scriven's mount So Funny was best of the rest in
second place in the 1000 metre race.
It was three wins in a row and five for the afternoon when
Satinka scored a hard fought win in the Bijou D'inde Handicap. Again it was Shane Scriven
who finished second, this time aboard Oasis.
Byrne wasn't the only Australian rider to taste success on
the twelve event card. Melbourne's Sam Hyland took the final event with Oriental Standard.
There were also minor placings on the card to Nathan Day
and Danny Brereton. |
