Melbourne jockey Kerrin McEvoy has picked up the
ride on the Lee Freedman trained filly Ugachaka for the Doncaster Handicap in Sydney on
Saturday. Freedman decided today he would back the
Danasinga filly up in the million dollar Doncaster after her impressive half length win in
yesterday's $142.230 Hotel Inter-Continental Queen of the Turf Stakes at Rosehill.
The filly has just 48.5 kilograms in the 1600 metre event
and is guaranteed of a start.
McEvoy is a proven Group One winning jockey in a
big Group One Sydney Mile event. Last year he won the George Main Stakes aboard Viscount
for John Hawkes over 1600 metres at Royal Randwick.
Owned by Gary Chittick of Waikato Stud, the home of the
Group One winning stallion Danasinga, Ugachaka ran second at her previous run in the Group
Two Phar Lap Stakes behind the Gai Waterhouse trained Arlington Road.
Scott Seamer was aboard Ugachaka in yesterday's Queen of
the Turf Stakes, one of his four stakes race wins which included both Group Ones - the
Golden Slipper (Calaway Gal) and The BMW Stakes (Ethereal).
