In a sad twist to todays Group One Australia
Stakes at Moonee Valley Group One winner Black Bean was put down after breaking down
badly. The gelding was eased out of the race near the
800 metres mark by his jockey Brett Prebble in the 1200 metre event.
A member of the Mathew Ellerton stable, the son of Raami,
was having his 39th start in todays feature event, which was taken by the
eight-year-old veteran Toledo.
Despite having not won a race for neary a year and a half
Black Bean had still managed an excellent record of eight wins, five seconds and two
thirds and stakes earnings of $1,356,490.
A striking looking six-year-old Black Bean was raced by
David and Jenny Moodies Contract Racing Pty Ltd Syndicate.
