Nominations for the two day jumps and flat spectacular closed to noon today with 371 entries being received altogether for both Easter Saturday and Monday.

Seventeen entries were received for the feature event of the carnival, the $150,000 Carlton Draught Great Eastern Steeplechase (4950m) on Easter Monday.

Leading the Great Eastern charge was Eric Musgrove. The Victorian has five jumpers entered. They are Big Bonus, Dobroyd, Hibernian Prince, Real Zeal and Worthy Knight.

Last year's Von Doussa Steeple winner Jarl is a Great Eastern nomination as are the John Wheeler pairing of Crafty Dancer and Maybe Rough.

Turkey Lane, the grey gelding who scored a boilover when he won the rich jumping event in 1998, is back again for Cheltenham Park based trained Brian Searle. Other locals nominated were Ballata (Gordon Richards) and Hostler (John O'Connor).

Lee Freedman has entered his dashing jumper Nautilism for the Great Easter, while other Victorians to show interest were Shayne Fisher (Port Campbell), John Leek (Midnight Smoker) and David Brideoake (Noble Jon).

The listed Onkaparinga Cup on Easter Monday has 27 entries headed by top performers Dark Banner, Joe Bananas, Mr. Selby, Newsflash, Oxford Dollar, Simply Magical, Tanzman and The Hind.

The feature flat race on the first day of the carnival, the listed $60,200 Clipsal Stakes, has 18 entries. Among them are Aptego, Comedy Court, Flurry's Gem, Manetti, Noble Win, Stand by Me, Suit and Vargna.

Entries for two races over the carnival have been extended until 10am on Monday at the standard fee. The Adelaide Bank Handicap for two-year-olds (1050m) only attracted 14 nominations, while on Monday the AAMI Greys Class 6 Handicap (1100m) has just nine entries.
