The Sydney Turf Club has received four late
entries this morning for Saturday's Golden Slipper at Rosehill.
Connections of Victory Vein, Chuckle,
Calaway Gal and Bel Esprit paid the $110,000 late entry fee when required by 11am this
morning.
Victory Vein, a member of the in form Bede
Murray stable, strengthened her Slipper claims when she scored a comprehensive win over
fellow late entry Calaway Gal in the $141,200 Rosemount Estate Magic Night Stakes (G2) on
Saturday.
A daughter of Mr. Henrysee, Victory Vein is
the winner of six of her eight starts to date and already earned connections $406,396.
Chuckle, trained by Gai Waterhouse,
impressed in a Sydney trial during the week giving the stable another top chance of
defending the race they won last year with Ha Ha. Waterhouse already has the brilliant
colt Snowland confirmed as a runner.
A daughter of Danehill, Chuckle chased home the
top Lion Hunter fully Lovely Jubly in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast in
January.
Calaway Gal, the boom filly from
Queensland, was unbeaten until her first Sydney start earlier this month.
In the Sweet Embrace Stakes she was soundly
thrashed by Victory Vein, before the Bede Murray trained filly again had her measure on
the weekend.
Bel Esprit, Melbourne's juvenile sprinting
sensation, needs little introduction. The son of Royal Academy is unbeaten from five
starts including a last start success in tyhe Group One Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.
Since that run he barrier trialled in
sensational style at Bendigo before working brilliantly at Rosehill during the week.
