Consistent Adelaide middle distance performer Lord Kingston returned
to the winner's stall by taking this afternoon's $75,000 Pakenham Cup (1500m) at
Mornington. The gelding looked on track to run a big
race after a strong third to the classy mare Umaline (who ran seventh in Monday's
Australian Cup) in the Classic Mile at Victoria Park at his most recent start.
Trained by Adelaide's Aquanita Racing trainer Dan
O'Sullivan the gelding was ridden to victory by Peter Mertens.
At the end of the 1500 metre race Lord Kingston ($10) had
hung on to beat the favourite Thong Classic ($3.50) by a neck. Third home, a long neck
further back, was Classic Secret ($15).
A seven-year-old by Kingston Mill, Lord Kingston is now the
winner of 11 of his 44 starts and his earnings jumped to over $200,000 after today's win.
