Northerly looks set to
start as short as even money for Saturday's clash with Ethereal in the Group Two St George
Stakes at Caulfield tomorrow. Melbourne based
bookmaker Allan Eskander, the son of Michael, has quoted the gelding at $2 for tomorrow's
1800 metre race but he is not classy the gelding as over the line.
"Any thing that short and we're always willing to take
them on," Eskander said.
Northerly ($2) heads the betting over Ethereal ($5.50), Old
Comrade ($6) and Cent Home ($7).
Barkada looks as though he will jump as the favourite in
tomorrow's richest Melbourne race, the Group One Futurity Stakes over 1400 metres.
"I've rated Barkada a better winning chance in the
Futurity than the other highly regarded three-year-old Dash for Cash," Eskander
added.
The Freedman trained Barkada, a last start Group One winner
of the CF Orr Stakes at the track, has been assessed as a $3.50 chance ahead of Dash for
Cash ($5), Gordo ($7), Miss Pennymoney ($9), Desert Sky ($10) and Emission ($13).
Eskander's market for the Shannons Classic looks set for a
reshuffle after the announcement that the Peter Moody trained Victoria Derby winner Amalfi
was scratched this morning.
Amalfi was rated at $7 behind Royal Code ($3 fav), Don
Eduardo ($4.60) and Ustinov ($5.50). The next in the market was another Freedman runner
All Courage at $10. |
