Saturday's record breaking
Chipping Norton Stakes winner Tie The Knot heads the entries for April's $822,860
Schweppes Sydney Cup (3200m). The Guy Walter trained
gelding was one of 67 nominations received for the harbour city's richest staying
handicap, which will run on April 13.
Other Group One winners among the entries include Asia, Big
Pat, Dress Circle, Mr. Prudent and The Hind.
One high profile galloper who won't be in the race is the
top kiwi performer Zonda. The son of Zabeel recently went amiss again and will be retired.
In the latest market issued by leading Melbourne bookmaker
Michael Eskander the Waterhouse trained Dress Circle and the promising Denham performer
Gillespie head the betting at $6.
The second line of betting is shared by Spirit of Westbury
and The Secondmortgage at $10. Carnegie Express is quoted at $13. Tie the Knot is a $16
chance.
As expected Sydney's queen of the track Gai Waterhouse has
entered a swag of entries for the Group One Champagne Stakes for two-year-olds to be run
on the same program.
Some 94 youngsters were nominated including Chuckle, Gai,
Kiawah, Kidman, Snowland, Takas and Very Funny.
Waterhouse has entered no fewer than 20 babies for the
$502,460 race over 1600 metres.
