Leading Caulfield based trainer James Riley was
this afternoon suspended by Racing Victoria Stewards after an inquiry into a recent
positive swab returned by one of his winners. Riley,
who's been in great form in the past three months with city winners including Gattaca, Mr.
Magoo, Grange Hill, Macmiki and Kabila, was given a three month suspension.
An inquiry was called after his galloper Shibiri returned a
positive swab after winning the Salamander Handicap at Sandown on December 16.
The sample was found to contain the prohibited substance dexamethasone.
During this afternoon's hearing evidence was taken from
Riley as well as a stable employee, two part owners of Shibiri and three doctors who were
all called as witnesses by the trainer.
The Stewards disqualified Shibiri was the winner of the
Salamander Handicap and amended the placings to read:
First TANGIBLE
Second LIGHTUMA
Third WILLY WORK
Fourth AERONAUTIC
