The Scotty Seamer show has
ended in spectacular fashion this afternoon when his mount La Bella Dama failed to beat a
runner home in the $100,000 Group One Auto Auctions WFA Double over 1400 metres. In a major boilover the first and second favourites - Vinaka and La
Bella Dama - both finished unplaced behind the bolter No Mean City.
A six-year-old gelding by Star Board, No Mean City won the
1400 metre feature event by a length.
The gelding is trained by little known Te Horo trainer John
Kiernan and was ridden to victory by underrated senior rider Damian Browne.
Second home was the third favourite Star Satire (Michael
Coleman), while Fritz (Noel Harris) was a further long neck away in third place.
Current champion jockey Lane O'Sullivan failed in his
attempt to win another feature race when his favoured mount Vinaka finished some five and
a half lengths away in eighth place.
La Bella Dama, a Group One winner of the Mackinnon Stakes
at Flemington in November, failed to beat a runner home finishing last in the field of
ten, over eight lengths from the winner and two and a half lengths from her closest rival. |
