Champion Melbourne jockey Damien Oliver set Moonee
Valley alight today when he rode four winners. When
Oliver partnered home the Perth mare Ebony Magic to win the last of eight races it had
been his fourth success for the program.
Ebony Magic, who comes from the powerful Lou Luciani yard,
scored by a length in the MV Tabaret Handicap over 1000 metres. The striking black mare
was too strong for Tiger Belle and Yaremiss.
The first of the four winners came when the warm favourite
Rapid Waters proved much too good in the Carlton Draught Class 6 Handicap. The
four-year-old gelding won the 1200 metre event by a length and a half.
Winner number two was just around the corner when in the
following race Oliver again saluted the judge first. Awesome Warrior proved his name was
apt by blazing over the turf for a three length demolition of the Moonee O'Valley Night
Class 6 Handicap. No less than three lengths separated Awesome Warrior from his nearest
rival the Brett Prebble mount Follow the Band.
The third victory came thanks to the New South Wales visitor
Alassany. Trained by Don Robb, the mare scored a strong win in the seventh race of the
day, the MV Functions and Events Handicap.
