Leading Melbourne apprentice Luke Currie was charged
with careless riding for his winning ride on the Brian Cox trained Rich Ruby Red at Moonee
Valley last night. Stewards ruled Currie had
allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Ponentina, which resulted in
Ebony Beauty being checked.
Currie sought to call Cox, the winning trainer and fellow
apprentice Brendan Fenech, who had ridden the mare previously, so Stewards adjourned the
inquiry to a date to be fixed.
Meanwhile, fellow rider James Winks was fined $200 last night
after weighing in one kilogram heavy on Hawaii Jig after the running of race six.
Furthermore, Linda Meech and Vincent Caddy were both severely
reprimanded for separate rides on the seven event card.
