High class four-year-old Gunnamatta has continued
the great recent run of form for jockey Kerrin McEvoy by scoring an easy win in this
afternoon's $150,000 Carlton Draught Mornington Cup. Starting
at $9 the son of Snippets was too strong and he held a one and a half length advantage
over the $2.60 favourite Mr. Casanova.
Mr. Casanova was gunning to notch up a winning treble for
trainer Colin Alderson. He scored other wins on the programme with Walk On Air and
Guthrie.
Gunnamatta is trained by Tony Noonan and gave the local
trainer a fairytale home town Cup triumph.
Dreams of a feature race double for Noonan on his home
track were dashed when late in the afternoon 25/1 chance Show No Emotion ran fourth in the
$100,000 Hareeba Stakes.
For Kerrin McEvoy is was the continuation of a
great run the senior rider is currently experiencing.
On Saturday McEvoy rode two winners including Dash for Cash
in the Group Three The Debonair at Flemington.
Last start Moonee Valley winner Kabila ($6.50) was third, a
further three parts of a length back.
The winner stopped the clock at 2 minutes 4.12 seconds.
Champion Melbourne jockey Damien Oliver finished the day
with a winning double. He partnered both Colin Alderson trained horses to victory.
