Star colt Bel Esprit has had his Blue Diamond
price slashed even further after another effortless win in the race's Prelude at Caulfield
on Sunday. Leading Melbourne bookmaker Michael
Eskander has now marked the colt as an even money favourite for the race to be run on
February 23.
Trained by Macedon Lodge's John Symons, the son of Royal
Academy extended his unbeaten run on a soft track on Sunday.
Symons was not surprisingly beaming after the
race, in which his $9,000 bargain buy won eased down by a length and a half.
"Bring on the Blue Diamond," Symons told
reporters.
Jockey Wayne Treloar didn't have the ideal ride either as
the saddle on the two-year-old slipped just before the pair turned for home.
Cool Trent, the best of the beaten brigade behind Bel
Esprit, is on the fourth line of betting at $10 along with Leon Corstens' unbeaten filly
Bardego. The latter was due to gallop this morning.
