Tony McEvoy will be hoping his great recent run
can continue tomorrow when he attempts to win his first Group One race by saddling up
North Boy in the $402,000 Lightning Stakes at Flemington. Figures released earlier this week by the Racing Services Bureau indicated that
McEvoy was the leading trainer by wins and placings in Victoria for the month of January.
McEvoy said the last month had been a good time for the
stable and he was very much looking forward to the near future. He is also excited about
the chances of his youngster North Boy.
"We are looking forward to the next few months of
racing starting with North Boy in tomorrows Lightning Stakes at Flemington,"
McEvoy said.
The son of Rory's Jester, and half brother to
Northerly, hasn't raced since finishing last to Belle do Jour in the Emirates Classic at
Flemington on November 8.
McEvoy is quietly confident about the chances of his young
star and feels the short trip will suit tomorrow.
"He looks to have come back superbly after his break.
While this will be the toughest race of his career up until now we are certainly hopeful
of capping of a good start to the year with a group one win," McEvoy explained.
If North Boy does win not only will it be McEvoy's first
Group One win, but it would be the fifth success for Lindsay Park.
