A trainer and jockey have
both been hit with heavy fines by stewards after hearings into not wearing a suitable
safety vest were held today. Former Perth hoop David
O'Heare, who has been based in Adelaide since the end of last year, was fined $1,000 after
stewards found the vest he wore when riding Arabian Waltz at Clare on January 30 "did
not conform to the Australian rules of racing."
Evidence was taken from racecourse detective Rob Lean and
clerk of the scales Darryl Hewitt as well as O'Heare.
O'Heare was charged for "presenting himself to ride in
a vest which did not have attached the appropriate manufacturer's label, as required,
which could have led to him breaching ARR 87B.
Meanwhile, licenced trainer and Macclesfield based
studmaster Daniel Clarken was fined $750 after being nabbed not wearing a safety vest.
Clarken was observed by officials of riding trackwork at
Strathalbyn on Friday January 18 without the required vest. He was charged under 87B and
pleaded guilty. |
