Leading New South Wales
country rider Robert Thompson was the shining light at today's Quirindi Cup meeting with
four winners including the feature event. Kaaptive
Empress, a member of the Peter Dombkins stable, was in great form and gave favourite
punters plenty to cheer about when he scored a runaway win in the Akubra Quirindi Cup.
At the post the five-year-old have streaked clear of his
rivals winning by five and a half lengths. Second home was Channon Magic (Paul Falvey) and
third was Nepelle (Greg Ryan).
A race earlier Thompson had taken the feature sprinting race
for the day, the RH Taylor Lightning Handicap (1100m) aboard the veteran performer Wry
Hero. Starting at $9.00 Wry Hero scored by a long head over Peruvian Lea, while Princely
was another length and a quarter back in third place.
Thompson then rounded out the afternoon by winning the last
race aboard the Alan Scorse trained Bound and Gagged.
This was his fourth winner for the afternoon. His earlier
success came when hot favourite That's Canny won race four on the program. |
