31/01/02 Gauci to Ride in Adelaide on Saturday
r5dgauci.jpg (11482 bytes)In form Melbourne based jockey Darren Gauci will ride in Adelaide on Saturday as racing in that state warms up with three top class events on the Cheltenham card.

Gauci will ride for John Hawkes in the three feature events on Tokyo City Cup Day.

Hawkes will be hoping the pair's recent luck in Melbourne will flow over to the South Australian capital as the stable has leading chances in all three stakes events.

Yell, who finished third to the boom debut winner Delago Brom at Caulfield last start, will carry the all cerise in the Group Two Alcohol Go-Easy Breeders' Stakes over 1263 metres.

The evergreen sprinter Suit will be the duo's representative in the RN Irwin Stakes over 1000 metres. Suit will be forced to carry 57.5 kilograms in the Group Three race after being allotted top weight.

The third of the trio is the top class performer Accuse. He will line up in the $100,000 Rawsons Electrical Tokyo City Cup over 1450 metres. Accuse's chances took a bit of a nose dive at this morning's barrier drawn when he was given barrier 14 in the field of 15.

Gauci isn't the only Melbourne based rider who will be in Adelaide on Saturday. As reported yesterday Peter Mertens will be there as well and his feature rides are Scenic Warrior (Tokyo City Cup) for Lee Freedman and French Terror (Breeders' Stakes) for Michael Moroney.
