Veteran Caulfield trainer
Arthur Clarke recorded a race metropolitan double at Sandown today with both Regal Rachel
and Power and Rhythm recording narrow wins. Clarke,
the father of former top jockey Michael, only normally has six horses in training at one
time at his Caulfield base and today a third of them went to the races and both won!
The first success came when Regal Rachel beat Rows or Arches
by an inch in the Aare Handicap over 1600 metres.
After working to the front the Darren Gauci mount was able to
just see out the mile and score in the tightest of photo finish results.
The Clarke double was completed when in two races time the
Victory Dance gelding Power and Rhythm came home strongly to win the Bounding Away
Handicap (1600m).
Greg Childs, who rode four winners at Caulfield on Saturday,
had the gelding position off the pace before sweeping down the outside of the field to win
in good style.
Limerick Scene and Batarshi filled the minor placings behind
Power and Rhythm. |
