Michelle Payne, a member of
the famous Victoria riding family, suffered her first suspension in the final race at
Caulfield today. Payne, was hauled into the
steward's room after her handling of Knockroe in the Macquarie Handicap over 1800 metres.
Stewards ruled that Payne had allowed her mount to shift in
at the 1300 metre mark when insufficiently clear of the eventual race winner Mr. Casanova.
During the chain reaction Si Senor, Classic Secret and
Gunnamatta were all severely hampered.
Payne was outed for a period to commence at midnight on
Thursday and to expire at midnight on Friday 15 February.
The stewards report stated that "in arriving at the
penatly stewards took into account that Michelle Payne had not been suspended
previously." |
