A quality group of 38 three-year-olds remain in the running for the $753,000
Cadbury Guineas (Group 1) after first declarations were taken.
        The current total is
ten fewer than at the same time last year.
        Bart Cummings has late
nominated two gallopers including his top class performer Ustinov, a winner of the Group
Two AAMI Vase at Moonee Valley last October.
         Most of the remaining
runners are colts or geldings, however the fillies are represented by leading chances
including Ha Ha (Gai Waterhouse) and Moon Dragon (Lee Freedman).
        Also among the
declarations are VRC Derby winner Amalfi, Derby runner-up Zarek, Sandown Guineas runner-up
All Courage, and stakes winners Barkada, Chong Tong, Gordo, Manang, Pure Theatre, Royal
        Code, True Jewels and Ugachaka.
        Lee Freedman has nine
still in contention while other well represented trainers are Peter Moody (three) and
        Michael Moroney (three).
         Among the big name trainers
who don't even have one remaining chance are Lindsay Park's Tony McEvoy and Myles Plumb,
the private trainer for Lloyd Williams.
The race, to be run at
Flemington on Sunday 17 February, will be run over 1600 metres.
        Final declarations for
the race ($4,125) close at 10am on Thursday 14 February.
