Local trainer Tony Cruz, a former star jockey, has
extended his lead in the Hong Kong training premiership to four over Australian David
Hayes. Hayes built up an early lead in the
premiership, however since Cruz won the legend's jockey race at Flemington in November he
has assumed the role at the top of the table.
From 202 runners this season Cruz has been represented by 29
wins, 25 seconds and eight thirds, as compared to Hayes who's 263 runners have registered
25 wins, 26 seconds and 13 thirds.
Hayes does lead the stakes earning race for trainers. His
runners have earned HK$24,189,575 as compared to Cruz's HK$20,644,720.
After taking the Group One race yesterday Aussie John Size
has lifted his way to eighth on the premiership with 16 winners from just 84 runners. His
winning strike rate is far superior to any other trainer in Hong Kong. Size is fourth in
order of stakes after Electronic Unicorn's brilliant win in the Steward's Cup.
