Five Australian gallopers are among 75 classy
entries from around the world for the S$1million Singapore Classic (G3) to be run on March
        1.
Caulfield based Lee Freedman leads with way
with three nominations - Bush Padre, Le Zagaletta and Scenic Warrior.
The other two local horses are the Paul
Sutherland trained The Man and and aptly named Stephen Jones trained Gold Coast performer
        In Singapore.
Three kiwi based gallopers - Hill of Grace
(Robert Priscott), So Casual (Ross Taylor) and Cent Home (Jim Wallace) - were also among
        the early nominations.
With an imposing 12 nominations from the 41
overseas entries received, the famous blue colours of Godolphin look set to make up for
the late scratching of their only runner, Happy Diamond, in last year's event. Among the
Godolphin entries are the top class gallopers Best of the Bests and State Shinto.
The globe trotting evergreen top liner Jim and
Tonic heads the European list of entries. The French based performer is joined by no fewer
than five entries from the German based trainer Andreas Schutz.
Singapore horses are also well represented
in this years nominations, with 34 entries.
Heading the local list are Bocelli, who
would be looking for another good showing on home soil against international competitors,
and fellow Hong Kong International Races invitees Tapildo and Saddle Up. Other
notable entries from Kranji include the Malcolm Thwaites trained Our Aristotle, Smart Bet,
and exciting three-year-olds Palace Line and Angel of Harmony.
Other entries have been received from Great
Britain (4), Hong Kong (1), and Macau (6).
The final list of starters and emergencies
will be announced on 31 January 2002.
