Queensland jockey Alan Cowie
was taken to hospital on the Gold Coast today after a fall which has left the hoop with
suspected spinal injuries. Cowie was riding the
last start winner Northern Friends in the Marriott Surfers Paradise Resort Handicap when
that horse fell near the 800 metre mark of the 1300 metre race.
Ambulance officers were quickly on the scene and attended to
the accomplished rider before he was transported by ambulance to hospital for further
tests.
Cowie then missed his opportunity to partner the Bevan Laming
trained Emperor Star, a recent winner at Ipswich, in the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy
two races later. |
