Danny Beasley returned to
Sydney after a successful stint in Macau by winning the first race, the 2002 Golden
Slipper Ball Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury today. Beasley
was able to boot home the Coronation Day gelding Athelnoth to a soft win, by holding out
the favourite Choisir to win. The first starter Shehaab was a breath away in third place.
The Macau Racing scene was shocked when Beasley made the
decision to quit his current contract and return to Australia.
At the time of relinquishing his licence Beasley was leading
the local riding premiership by four wins.
Trained by Randwick based Tiger Holland, Athelnoth was given
an each way chance today after his surprise last start third at Rosehill when he was
unwanted in betting, jumping at 300/1. |
