Melbourne galloper Maguire, attempting for the big
two mile double in New Zealand, has been given top weight for Friday's Group One
Wellington Cup (3200m). Owned by the Westbury
Stud Syndicate, Maguire was sent to New Zealand by trainer John Collins in an attempt to
win the recent Auckland Cup.
With that race now safly in his keeping, Maguire will be
gunning for the big two mile double at Trentham.
The gelding has been asked to carry 57 kilograms after the
weights were revealed. He has a half kilo more than his nearest weighted rival Our
Unicorn. Both Greene Street and Trounced are next with 55 kilograms.
Some 70 nominations were received for the 3200 metre race.
Among the other interesting entries are Ebony Honour, Betta Watch It, Gordon's, Singalong,
So Lets, Forfar, Maridpour, Classic Babe, Big Hustler, Ballina Kate and Java Siang.
