Former Australian jockey Steven King has had a great
start to the new year by taking the feature race in Hong Kong on Tuesday evening. King was successful on the Tony Cruz trained Our Class in the Group
Three Chinese Club Challenge Cup.
Having his first ride on the New Zealand bred son of
Masterclass, King won the race by a length and a half over Best of the Bests, while Triple
Express was a further neck away in third place.
With the win King elevates himself into the top ten on the
jockey's premiership. It was King's twelfth winner of the season.
He joins fellow Australian jockeys Shane Dye (third with 22
wins) and Dwayne Dunn (sixth with 15 wins) at the head of the table.
There was no joy for any of the other Australian jockeys or
trainers. Shane Dye came close with three seconds and a third, while King also had a
second and third placing.
King has helped local based trainer Tony Cruz bridge the gap
on Australian trainer David Hayes in the trainer's premiership. Hayes now only holds a two
win advantage with his 25 winners compared with 23 for Cruz.
