Former expensive yearling
purchase Benarrivo has shown he could be up to stakes class in the upcoming Melbourne
spring carnival after scoring a gutsy first up win at Sandown this afternoon. A gelding by Zabeel, Benarrivo was knocked down for $380,000 at the
2000 New Zealand Premier Sale at Karaka.
Benarrivo was having his first start for the Bart Cummings
stable, after kicking off his career with Myles Plumb under the ownership of Lloyd
Williams.
With Andrew Findlay in the saddle, Benarrivo was having his
first start since finishing third to the handy performer Foxborough in a race at
Flemington in March.
The win was the third winner on the afternoon for the
Cambridge Stud based super sire Zabeel.
We was also represented by the earlier winners Prime Target
and Lady Viola. |
