Everyone in Australia and
New Zealand is fully aware of the magnificent achievements of the former Group One winning
galloper Zabeel since he was retired to stud at Sir Patrick Hogans Cambridge Stud. During his stud career Zabeel has sired a swag of star Group One
winners including Octagonal, Might and Power, Jezabeel, Cronus, Sky Heights, Mouawad,
Dignity Dancer, Champagne, Zacheline, Inaflury and Hill of Grace, and now its his female
family that is proving their worth at stud.
Charming Life, who like Zabeel is by the former Cambridge
champion Sir Tristram and out of top producing Nureyev mare Lady Giselle, was represented
by an impressive stakes winner in France last week.
Wellbeing, who is by the worlds champion stallion
Sadlers Wells and out of Charming Life, bolted clear of his rivals for a three
length win in the Grand Prix de Compiegne (2000m) at listed level in France.
As well as being the dam of Wellbeing, Charming Life has
already proven herself in the breeding barn as the sire of the former top class galloper
and promising young sire Kingfisher Mill. Ironically, he also stands in New Zealand, being
based at Ray Knights Ashwell Farm near Matamata.
Wellbeing had already proven himself to be a galloper of
high class. No doubt his best effort to date came in defeat. On that occasion he chased
home the brilliant Mutafaweq in the Group One Coronation Cup at Epsom, going down by a
mere short head. He is already a Group winner after downing Marienbard in the Group Three
St Simon Stakes.
Its understood connections of Wellbeing will target
the Group Three Prix Gontaut-Biron in France on August 10. |
