Group winning mare Hula Wonder has been sold for $130,000 at the
June Broodmare Sale at Oaklands in Melbourne today. A
winner of some thirteen races, the empty mare has been one of the most honest and
consistent gallopers in Victoria over the past few seasons.
Entering the ring as lot number 491, the Hula Chief mare
was knocked down to New South Wales based Doncaster Bloodstock for $130,000.
A daughter of the stakes winner Hula Chief, Hula Wonder is
out of the dual Flemington stakes winning Aurilandy mare Natural Wonder. That mare is in
turn out of a grandaughter of the Sandown Cup winner Radiant Blue. Hula Wonder is the only
runner on the track for Natural Wonder. Her only other foal is unraced.
Hula Wonder was a dual Group winner. Her best successes
came in the Gillette Stakes (G3) at Flemington and the Stocks Stakes (G3) at Moonee
Valley.
She also managed to place in a number of feature stakes
races including second placings in the Group Three Jayco Caravans Stakes and the listed
Let's Elope Stakes, both at Flemington.
In all the former Roger Hoysted trained mare started on 59
occasions for 13 wins, eight second and eight thirds for stakes earnings of $398,890.
Offered by Little Plains Stud, Hula Wonder is yet to be
served.
