Champion sire Seattle
Slew's career looks all but over with the brilliant stallion being taken from service and
confirmation that surgery will be required.
Based at Three Chimneys Farm, Seattle Slew was subject to a
neurological examination on Tuesday morning before being taken to a nearby clinic for
further examination and x-rays.
Shareholders of Seattle Slew were all sent a letter
notifying them of the present situation.
"Seattle Slew is being removed from service
indefinitely and his return, if ever, to service will depend upon what is in the best
interests of the horse," the statement read.
"Dr. (Barrie) Grant, however, advises that a minimum
recovery time from surgery of this sort is six to eight weeks, so we advise you make
alternative breeding plans with that in mind," it continued.
The brilliant sire was found to have serious spinal cord
compression and another anterior inter-body fusion would be performed on him immediately.
The same operation was used on Seattle Slew in 2000.
Seattle Slew, a Champion at two, three and four on the
track, is the sire of champions including AP Indy, Slew O' Gold, Swale, Capote, Landaluce
and Digression. |
