His progeny are stars on
the track and now his yearlings are the stars of the sales ring. There's no stopping Blue Gum Farm's resident young stallion Encosta
de Lago.
At this week's Melbourne Premier Sale yearlings by the hot
young sire sold to $170,000.
When the hammer fell for the final time on Monday evening
all 29 of Encosta de Lago's offerings were sold at an average price of over $51,000.
Among the leading trainers to buy themselves an Encosta de
Lago yearling were Lee Freedman, Tony Noonan, Robbie Laing, Paul Perry, John Morrisey,
Colin Alderson, Robbie Griffiths and Tommy Hughes.
There's little wonder all of the good judges are seeking
out a yearling by Blue Gum Farm's promising young stallion.
He is already the sire of some of the country's hottest
young gallopers including Lightning Stakes placegetter Chong Tong, Tasmanian star Dragila,
Saturday's heroine Gold Lottey as well as the stakes placed quartet of Tuscanos, Betula,
Night Chaser and Largo.
Other youngsters who are showing great promise as early
two-year-olds this season include impressive recent Melbourne winners Delago Brom and
Gazania.
A Group One winner of the VicHealth Cup at Caulfield,
Encosta de Lago was one of the star racetrack performers of the brilliant Fairy King.
Fairy King's other sons at stud include Turtle Island,
Helissio, Second Empire, Revoque, Victory Note and Shinko King.
Encosta de Lago is out of the Star Way mare Shoal Creek.
She is a half sister to the Golden Slipper winning champion Flying Spur. |
