The Tale of the Cat success story of the New Zealand
Premier Yearling Sale was further boosted with his half sister to Amalfi selling for
$320,000 during today's third session at Karaka. Offered by Trelawney Stud, the filly is from a black type filled family, but
the exploits of Amalfi last November no doubt sent her value soaring.
The filly, a September 2000 foaling, is from the winning
Centaine mare Rationaine. Her only runner on the track is the VRC Derby winner Amalfi.
Rationaine is a half sister to New Zealand stakes winners
Wise Lass and Egoli Lass and a daughter of the Group Two winning and Group One placed
Sound Reason mare Rationale.
Amalfi, who is trained by Queensland based Peter Moody, had
Derby material written all over him when he easily took one of the race's main lead ups
the Group Two Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield at his previous start.
The filly's sale is the second big price paid for a yearling
by the Group Two winning son of Storm Cat, Tale of the Cat. Earlier in the day a filly
from the Group One winning Our Tristalight was knocked down for $330,000.
